Lighting up the hospice for Baby Loss Awareness Week
This week (9th-15th October) is Baby Loss Awareness Week, an annual UK-wide opportunity for bereaved parents, families and friends, to commemorate babies’ lives and to raise awareness about baby loss.
Sadly, every year, thousands of people experience the loss of a baby in pregnancy, at or soon after birth, and in infancy. Many can feel very isolated and find it hard to get the support they need. This year, that sense of isolation has been exacerbated by the pandemic, which has made it even harder to access help or be able to spend time with people who understand what they’re going through.
That’s why we want to come together to let those families who have lost a baby know they are not alone. And we invite you to show your support for those who have experienced the loss of a baby – whether or not you have been directly affected yourself.
Creating a wave of light
At 7pm on 15th October, we’ll be lighting up Russell House, our hospice, with 350 lights in memory of those babies whose families we have supported over the last four years. At the same time, we’ll be joined by local landmarks lighting up in pink and blue to commemorate those babies whose lives shone brightly but far too briefly. Those landmarks are:
• Bradford Town Hall
You can join in the commemorations by lighting your own light or by leaving a dedication on our special dedication page.
If you’d like to help us continue to be here for families facing or living with the loss of their baby, you can buy one of our limited edition shooting star badges or make a donation to our Shooting Star Appeal.
