Pupils across West Yorkshire come together to help local children’s hospice go “around the world”

In conjunction with Pennine Sports Partnership, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice is getting the community involved with their “Around The World” challenge, which runs during Children’s Hospice Week. We are challenging pupils to each travel at least one mile and collectively travel the 24,900 miles which make up the circumference of the earth! At the same time, we’re helping to educate children about children’s hospices and what they do, which we also hope will help us reach out to those families who really need our support.

With over 80 schools and 24,000 children across West Yorkshire getting involved, Forget Me Not are on track to travelling the distance “around the world” as the children walk, run, dance or wheel for at least one mile. Many children are raising money for Forget Me Not and, if every child raises just £2.50, this will result in around £60,000 being raised for the hospice. This will go a long way to helping Forget Me Not raise the crucial funds that it needs to keep saying yes to children and families. Some children are even raising in the region of £100!

We’ve been visiting lots of schools and talking to thousands of children during their assemblies over the past month to help them understand more about what a children’s hospices does for the children and families we support. We’ve had a great response from everyone and we are hugely inspired by their eagerness to help other children, showing how powerful it is when communities come together”.

The “Around The World” Challenge will run from 22nd – 28th May and will be carried out during PE lessons or as a whole school event, during or after school.
