Our care team

A team which cares for your whole child, as well as your whole family.

Our care team is made up of a wide range of wonderful and highly experienced people, from specialist nurses to therapists, counsellors, doctors and volunteers. They’re led by our director of care and our consultant nurse, supported by our head of education and our administration teams. Together, we consider it a privilege to be part of each family's journey.

Whatever you’re facing, we’re here to help and support you – in fact, we call it ‘wrapping our arms around you’. There’s no palliative condition we can’t care for, and there’s virtually nothing we haven’t seen before. That experience can be a real comfort, with families usually breathing a big sigh of relief when they first meet us.

“I felt part of the hospice family from the moment I arrived.”

We’re led by nurses & therapists

The families who come to us tend to already have a huge array of doctors, specialists and consultants behind them: they really don’t need any more of the same. They need a place which cares for the whole child, and the whole family, including all of their emotional and practical needs.

That’s what we offer, because Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice is led by nurses and therapists, not doctors and consultants. Our specialists see the whole child including managing the clinical needs as well as their family's needs. Our specialist nurses can also prescribe medicines and will plan every aspect of your child’s care, and our therapists support the entire family in a whole variety of ways.

“Forget Me Not’s [nurse-led] model is exactly the model we are looking for in the future”.
– Lord Willis, for Health Education England

Our inspection rated us as ‘outstanding’

If you’re worried that being nurse-led means we offer a lower standard of care, nothing could be further from the truth. The Care Quality Commission’s inspectors rated our children’s hospice as ‘Outstanding’, which puts us in the top 1% of all the organisations they inspect.

Close relationships with doctors & specialists

We build very strong relationships, and keep up ongoing contact, with all of the medical professionals associated with each child we care for. And since families have to navigate their way through a confusing array of health and social-care professionals, we are happy to help with bringing everything together simply and efficiently – and making everything a bit less stressful.
