£ on the bill

£ on the Bill

Here’s a really easy way to raise money for us – by asking your customers if they’re willing to add £1 onto their bill, which then comes straight to us.

What do you have to do?

It’s so easy for you to get involved and easy for your customers to donate. At the time your customers are ready to pay, just ask them whether they’re willing to ‘put a pound on the bill’ for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice. You can do it through the business (especially if they’re paying by card), or if they’re paying cash then you can pop each £1 straight into a collection tub or tin. Then send us what you raise. What could be simpler!

What kind of business are you?

The obvious answer would be a pub, café or restaurant – but to be honest, anyone can do it as long as you have a fairly high volume of transactions. Maybe you MOT vehicles, sell handbags, rent rooms or cut hair; maybe you’re a veterinary practice or you run a fruit ‘n veg stall.

How can you promote the campaign?

It’s something new to talk about on social media, and it’s for such a great cause that customers will love it. You can put signs up at the till, and you can flag it up on your website homepage. Just make sure your staff all know about it and are promoting it – maybe you could incentivise them with rewards for the individuals who nobble the most £s!

When should you run the campaign?

That’s up to you. You could run it all year round, and make it a 'thing' your business is known for. Or you could choose particularly busy times of year, perhaps in the run-up to Christmas, Valentine’s or Mother’s Day.

"We use £ on the bill in the run-up to Christmas. It’s a really busy time for us, so the ease of the scheme means we can relax about getting our fundraising completed – it just runs itself."

Jack Bennett, sales & events manger, The Botanist, Leeds.
