All the magical ways you’re going the extra mile during Children’s Hospice Week

It’s Children’s Hospice Week this week – a moment to reflect on, celebrate and promote the essential work children’s hospices do. In the UK, there are around 49,000 children living with life-shortening conditions – they and their families need care, therapy and support, as well as the chance to spend precious time together and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Children’s hospices are a lifeline for those children and families. But, as charities, we are reliant on donations and the fundraising efforts of supporters and volunteers to do the work we do.

That’s why we are celebrating the efforts of those going the extra mile for us this week.

Over 20,000 local children from over 70 schools and youth organisations are going Around the World during Children’s Hospice Week – running, walking, skipping even cartwheeling a mile or two each to raise money in support of the children we care for.

One school, Brontë House School, the Junior School of Woodhouse Grove in Apperley Bridge, was so inspired by the idea of raising money for local children, they made this amazing video to promote their Around the World challenge.

Local businesses are also stepping up to the challenge this week. Many are taking part in our £1 on the bill campaign – like Halifax’s Wine and Cheese Company – just by asking their customers if they want to add a pound to their bill to support us. It couldn’t be simpler, really!

One organisation, Rider Levett Bucknall in Sheffield has taken their fundraising activity even further – they’re attempting to turn £100 into £1000 in the space of just a month. Employees have been out in force in the city gathering raffle prizes, including a £50 voucher kindly donated by Experience Days, for a big tombola-style event with all proceeds coming to us.

During Ramadan, which started last week, 14 mosques across Huddersfield will be raising funds for us, through collections and other fundraising activities – the first time all the mosques have raised money together for a single cause.

Want to show your support for children’s hospices – but not got anything planned? Don’t worry, you can help us simply by donating your unwanted but good quality stuff to one of our shops. It’s a really easy way to do something magical for the children and families we support.

That’s because, every item sold in our shops, every penny raised from all the campaigns and activities supporters are doing this week, goes towards our very simple aim – to say yes to more children with life-shortening conditions, however, wherever and whenever they need us.

And what could be more magical than that?
