Boat loads of fun at our Dragon Boat Race!

On 12th September 2021, teams from across West Yorkshire took part in a series of highly-competitive races across the lake at Pugneys Country Park, cheered on by a large crowd of spectators!

It was a fantastic day that raised an incredible £16,000 – every penny of which will go towards helping the children with life-shortening conditions and their families we support.

The Mayor of Wakefield, Tracey Austin, even showed her support at the event, wishing the participants good luck and saying she was “privileged to have visited the hospice and blown away by the staff and their work during the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Advanced Supply Chain Group took home the winning trophy after a close-fought final race. Mike Danby MBE, Executive Chairman of Advanced Supply Chain Group said: “What a great day out! A big thank you to all the organisers, from Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and Advanced. The hundreds of people there were all in great spirits, a lot of money was raised for my favourite charity and our boat won the title. Couldn’t have been better. We’ll be back next year to defend our title!”

Team Maci, whose family we supported in 2017, won the fancy-dress competition with the whole team dressed as characters from Alice in Wonderland. Jayne Mountain of Team Maci said: “What a day! We loved the Dragon Boat Race and had so much fun raising money. We’ll never forget how Forget Me Not helped us all – and Team Maci will forever support them. Next year, we ARE going to win!”

Our very own events and challenges fundraiser, Vicky Stackhouse, said “It was a fantastic day with a great atmosphere – and it felt so good to be back with our first major event since the start of the pandemic. Massive thank you to our sponsor, the Card Factory Foundation, everyone who helped organise the event and of course, all the teams who took part and those who came out to support them!”
