In his latest blog, our CEO looks ahead to a summer of fun, support and magical moments for the families we support

Gareth’s blog: Creating moments that matter this summer

Over the coming weeks, Russell House will be buzzing with activity – from the sounds of children creating and performing their own music, to cheering on success at our sports day, to the wonder of meeting some new furry friends, to the joy of a beach party complete with picnics and seaside vibes. We’ll also be helping families prepare for the new school year with a wellbeing day, and bringing everyone together for our family summer fun day.

These aren’t just fun events. They’re examples of the varied and responsive model of care and support that we’re proud to offer – one that recognises that every family’s needs are different, and that those needs can change over time.

A model of care that listens and adapts

Some families come to us for clinical support. Others need emotional care, a safe space to play, or simply a break. Many need all of these things at different times.

At Forget Me Not, we’re evolving our approach to care to ensure it’s as flexible, inclusive and family-led as possible. Our summer programme is a perfect example of this in action: joyful, creative, therapeutic, and importantly, tailored to the needs and wishes of the families we’re here to support.

So at Forget Me Not, we’re evolving our approach to care to ensure it’s as flexible, inclusive and family-led as possible, offering a wide range of services and experiences that meet each family’s needs. Our summer programme is a perfect example of this in action: joyful, creative, therapeutic, and importantly, tailored to the needs and wishes of the families we’re here to support.

Why variety matters

For some families, a day of music is a chance to express themselves, be loud and creative in a safe environment. For others, meeting animals or enjoying a beach-themed day offers a rare moment of calm away from the day to day challenges of caring for a child with a complex health condition. And for many, the chance to spend time with other children and families who understand what they’re going through is incredibly valuable. Above all, these activities help families to make precious memories that will last a lifetime.

This variety isn’t just nice to have – it’s essential. Because care is not one-size-fits-all, and that true support means offering choice, flexibility and dignity at every step.

As CEO, I’m incredibly proud of the team who make this possible, and of the families who continue to inspire us with their strength, honesty and trust. This summer, we’re not just offering activities – we’re helping families create moments that matter. Thank you for making this possible.
