Our Dragon Boat Race makes a real splash!
Our Dragon Boat Race made a colourful splash at Pugneys Country Park as 12 crews took to the water, many of them in full fancy-dress and all of them determined to do themselves proud!
We had crews representing businesses and organisations from across West Yorkshire who competed in a hotly contested series of races over the 200m course, with the fastest teams battling it out in two very closely fought semi-finals and an edge of the seat final between Yorkshire’s Fastest Fridgemen, Ideal Autolease and Taylor Wimpey Trouts. It was Yorkshire’s Fastest Fridgemen, a crew from Crowther and Shaw, who finally took the winners’ trophy. Best fancy-dress was awarded to one of Arrow Self Drive’s two teams, the Indians who beat their fellow Arrow cowboy-dressed colleagues, and our very own crew of pirates and (a single) princess (see picture above)!
Mark Gledhill, managing director at Crowther & Shaw said: “We had a great day out at Forget Me Not’s Dragon Boat Race. The event was well planned and while very competitive it still retained a fun side. We’ll definitely be back next year to defend our title!”
So far, the event has raised almost £3,000 with more donations still to be collected and counted. Every penny will go towards helping the local children with life-limiting conditions and their families we support.
A huge well done to all the crews (Arrow Self Drive, Covea, Crowther & Shaw, Ideal Autolease, Minster Law, Shepherds Boy, Snap Fitness, Taylor Wimpey and Team Captain Jack) who unleashed their inner dragons so enthusiastically and all their supporters for cheering them on and making it such a great day! Big thanks too to Gable Events for putting on such a brilliantly organised event, Minster Law for sponsoring it and to Pugneys Country Park for making us feel so welcome.
