Our New Year’s Resolution
Have you made any New Year’s resolutions this year? How many of us do, every year, and every year only manage to keep to them for a few days, sometimes weeks?! Only the most resolute of us keep to our resolutions all year.
10 years ago this year, families, volunteers, supporters and staff at Forget Me Not were resolute in getting the hospice, Russell House, built and open for the many families in West Yorkshire who sadly needed our services. Despite everything thrown at us, we have remained resolute and we’re still here, 10 years later, providing much needed support to local families who just can’t access services like ours anywhere else. Here’s what one mum, caught up in last year’s pandemic, said about us:
“I could call or text whenever I needed support no matter the time or day and will always get a response. I needed that kind of support, especially at the beginning when emotions were high after the loss of our baby and I didn’t know whatto do. We were also in lockdown so coping with our loss made my mental health worse, as we had the added stress of Covid 19 to deal with too. In times like that, just knowing there was someone there to talk to, helped a lot. “
Our New Year’s resolution for 2021 (and for many years to come) is to do everything we can to ensure we are here for the next 10 years. We are going to spend the year celebrating the work we do, the people who help us to do that and the families we have made a difference to. We will be marking it with events, launching new services and conferences aimed at sharing our knowledge about what works. We need the support of our local community, the community of West Yorkshire, to help us celebrate what we have together achieved and ensure we are here for the next 10 years.
In 2031, we want to be able to look back and see that thousands more families have benefitted from our services. Can you help us do that?
