The sweet story behind the Forget Me Not royal dog cake
At Forget Me Not, we believe in the ‘magic of yes’ – and when we heard that one of the teenagers from our children’s hospice in Huddersfield, Russell House, was going to the royal wedding on 19th May 2018 we knew we had to mark it in a special way.
Olivia Benn is 13-years-old from South Kirkby and has a complex heart condition. She is one the 1,200 members of the public to receive an invitation to the royal wedding on 19th May 2018 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
To celebrate, we commissioned Channel 4’s Extreme Cake Maker Molly Robbins to make a huge royal cake, inspired by the Queen’s love of corgis.
Baker Molly presented the surprise to Olivia at our recent Bark in the Park fundraising event in Manchester, which we organised to raise money for Grace’s Place.
Extreme Cake Maker Molly is from Rossendale, not too far away from our new children’s hospice, and with the Queen such a lover of corgis we wanted an elaborate, show-stopping cake that would tie in with our dog-themed fundraising event and celebrate Olivia going to Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
We were absolutely delighted with the finished result – as was Olivia – and it was such a sight to behold at our fundraising event.
A royal wedding special of Extreme Cake Makers will be shown on Channel 4 on Sunday 13th May 2018 at 4.30pm and will show how Molly made the cake, as well as our reaction to it.
We need to raise a total of £500,000 before we can open the doors to our new children’s hospice in Radcliffe to provide overnight and in-house support for children and families across North Manchester. If you would like to support us, you can donate here.
Thank you!
