We’ve joined forces with The Scan Room

For families who have received a diagnosis of a life-shortening condition at their 20 week scan or later in the pregnancy, being able to see and record their baby’s facial expressions and movement in-utero is incredibly precious.

But a hospital may not be the best place for them to spend time bonding with their unborn child and capturing those precious moments. In the calm surroundings of The Scan Room, they’ll be able to take their time, relax and make the most of the experience.

For families who go on to have another child, The Scan Room will also offer a scan of their ‘rainbow baby’, as we call them. It can also offer fertility scans for those struggling to conceive after the loss of a child.

It’s amazing to be able to offer this service to our families. Hospital-based ultrasound scans are very medicalised and for parents receiving the worst news imaginable, very upsetting too. There’s no chance to bond with their child or create positive memories. The Scan Room’s support means families including brothers and sisters and grandparents can see their baby for as long as they want, all in a quiet and comfortable setting. It’s hard to express quite how valuable this is to the families we support.

Ahmad Akhtar, The Scan Room’s Company Director, and Sonia Akhtar, The Scan Room’s Director of Ultrasound are delighted to support us, saying “as obstetrics/pregnancy is one of our specialities we will ensure guests receive great care in a reassuring environment. This also provides The Scan Room with a valuable platform to give recognition to those parents facing a difficult pregnancy and to make their experience with us as memorable as possible and enjoyable. We are proud of this achievement and consider this as an extraordinary partnership as we contribute once again to the people of the Yorkshire region.”
