Woodland Walk created in a day!

Thanks to Fusion Community Initiatives and funded by rugby charity Wooden Spoon, a fully accessible woodland walk has been constructed in just one day in a previously unused part of the garden at the far end of the site.

The woodland walk transforms this area into somewhere that children and families can connect with nature via the purpose built boardwalk that winds its way through the trees and shrubs. There are places for people to stop and take in what is around

them including bug hotels, sensory tunnels and seating areas.

A team of volunteers, including ex-servicemen, worked tirelessly to create this amazing space and it was formally opened by Eorl Crabtree on Thursday.

Going for a walk in the countryside is something that most of us might take for granted, but many of our families are unable to access the outdoors so easily. This walk will give them their own woodland experience, right here at Russell House! And we can’t wait to share it with them!

A huge thank you to everyone who got stuck in to this ambitious build, especially the Fusion Community Initiative team, Wooden Spoon and of course all our volunteers, including those from Morrisons Greenside HR team & Honeycomb Construction.
