Michael won the Volunteer Award at our 2016 Celebration Soirée because of his unrelenting commitment to supporting us, even though he also holds down a full-time job. For the past 3 years, he’s volunteered at least 5 hours on a Saturday, plus other times when asked, helping out wherever he can. On Saturdays, he’ll be behind the wheel of our van, delivering stock to our charity shops across West Yorkshire. At other times, he might be a car park attendant on open evenings, or willingly lugging furniture around, or making sure your potatoes don’t end up on top of a loaf of bread at a supermarket bag-pack.
According to Lynsey, Community Fundraiser at Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice “Michael’s amazing… I'm not even sure he realises it himself. He volunteers for hours on end, giving up huge amounts of his spare time. He does a lot of the leg-work that enables us to fundraise at events, and without him we just couldn't do what we do. Michael inspires me every single day, and the world needs more like him!”
Michael decided to volunteer for us after the loss of his cousin, Oliver. “Forget Me Not supported my family, and I wanted to give something back while helping a great charity,” he says. “I get to work with a fantastic group of people – you should try it, you won’t be disappointed!”
