Shooting Stars cyclists go the distance for bereaved families

Staff, volunteers, supporters and Forget Me Not ambassadors have been pedalling like mad this Baby Loss Awareness Week as part of our Shooting Stars Cycling Challenge!

Between 9th and 15th October our cycling challenge has seen supporters across the region racking up the miles to raise awareness and vital funds for families facing the heartbreak of baby loss. As well as at participating gyms and businesses, our children’s hospice has seen ambassadors Amelia Flanagan, Rhys Connah and Michael Lawrence, alongside Huddersfield Giants stars Leroy Cudjoe and Steve Hardisty jumping on static bikes, as well as trustees, staff and volunteers.

Adding to the effort, our Chief Executive Gareth Pierce completed an incredible 10 hours in the saddle in a single day, while Will, manager of our Holmfirth shop, clocked up an impressive 70-mile ride – in the shop window!

At the hospice alone, together we’ve ridden more than 800 miles – a distance which has special significance as we light 800 lanterns at Russell House this evening as part of our annual Wave of Light event, representing the babies whose families we’ve supported over the last 10 years.

So far, the challenge has raised more than £3,000, which will help us continue to provide specialist bereavement support for families following the loss of a baby.

A huge thank you goes to all the gyms, businesses and organisations supporting the challenge, including Oragyms (Shepley), Valley Fit Gym (Halifax), Kirklees Active Leisure, Calderdale Leisure Centres, Body Evolution Fitness (Huddersfield), AVL Fitness (Huddersfield), 1Vigor (Halifax), You Fit (Brighouse), Polyseam, Fuller Foods and G&H.
